How to Make Your Botox and Fillers Last Longer

botox North Vancouver & lip filler Vancouver

Botox and fillers are two of the most popular treatments patients request to fight signs of aging. Injectable treatments provide natural-looking, long-lasting results by decreasing and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, plumping up sunken areas, and improving the overall texture of your skin. Injectables can also contour your face by adding volume to sites that have lost definition over time.

Although Dermal fillers and Botox are used to achieve a more youthful appearance, they have different effects on the skin. Botox is a neurotoxin that relaxes facial muscles, while fillers help plump up sagging skin and restore volume.

Unfortunately, both results will fade over time due to natural processes in the body. Typically, Botox lasts around 3-6 months, depending on the dosage used, and fillers can last anywhere between 6 months to 2 years.

How often you need to touch up depends on your age, your metabolism, the area being treated, external aggressors, your lifestyle and, of course, the expertise of your injector.

Here is a list of our recommendations:

Find a qualified practitioner who uses high-quality products and is highly skilled in this area

One of the most important things you can do is choose a reputable provider. Do your research and only visit providers with experience and training in injectable treatments.

Schedule regular Botox injections
By keeping regular appointments, you'll train your facial muscles not to make wrinkle-forming expressions. However, too much Botox can make your facial muscles resistant to the treatment. An experienced injector should guide you on the appropriate dose and frequency of your injectable.

Protect your skin from the sun
You are probably well aware that sun exposure can damage your skin and cause pigmentation and those wrinkles you are trying to eliminate. Following your Botox injection, we strongly recommend that patients avoid the sun. The inflammation caused by the sun's UVA and UVB rays can affect your Botox treatment. It's essential to wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day to protect your skin. Don't forget to wear a hat and sunglasses for n added layer of protection. You will not only protect your skin but will also prolong the life of your Botox or fillers.

Maintain a good skin care regimen
Strengthen your skin by incorporating collagen-boosting skincare products like retinol or peptides. Topical antioxidant serums such as vitamin C are also helpful in protecting your skin from free radicals that can damage your skin and your Botox treatment. Products on the market that will strengthen your skin and promote healing from environmental factors will make your Botox last longer.

Hydrate your body and skin
Hydration is essential in maintaining your Botox injection. Drink plenty of water and use humectants and emollients to moisturize your skin. Hyaluronic acid can decrease the rate your body breaks down proteins and allows your injectables to last longer.

Take a day off from excessive exercise
While exercising frequently will not cause your Botox or filler to wear off, exercising immediately after receiving treatment can affect your results. We recommend giving yourself a day off to ensure your injectables don’t move to another part of your face.
